A sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical procedure that permanently reduces the size of the stomach to about one-quarter of its original size. It is not reversible. A gastric sleeve procedure offers weight loss via overall reduction in food intake.
The surgery can be performed laparoscopically or robotically, with several small incisions placed at various points on the abdomen. Post-op care involves educating the patient on their individualized nutritional needs, overall food intake and group support.
