Why is it important to walk after surgery?

A serious complication that can occur after surgery in a morbidly obese patient is to develop deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clot. You will begin walking shortly after surgery. In addition, you should continue to walk at home to minimize the risk of this complication. Walking is also an excellent form of exercise and should be done on a regular basis.
